About Dallas DFW

The Dallas-Fort Worth airport is located about midway between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, and was inaugurated in 1974. It is the home base of American Airlines, which is one of the pioneer passenger airlines in the United States. The American Airlines C. R. Smith museum is near DFW airport. The free Skylink train connects all five terminals at DFW, with two stops at each terminal. There is also a free shuttle van service that stops outside the baggage claim on each terminal. For those renting a car, there is a complementary shuttle service going to all the rental car offices, which can be a long ride since the airport covers a wide area.

For those with connecting flights at DFW, there are many shops and restaurants. The Trinity Railway Express is jointly operated by Dallas Area Rapid Transit and Fort Worth Transportation Authority, and makes stops at DFW airport. DART also operates city bus routes to both the north and south remote airport parking lots. The Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency are among the top luxury hotels at the DFW airport.

Part of the north side of the airport are within the city of Grapevine, and just north of the airport is the Grapevine Mills Mall. The Grapevine vintage railroad runs two steam locomotives along the old Cotton Belt Route between Fort Worth stockyards and Grapevine, pulling vintage passenger cars from the 1930s. Part of the southwest side of the airport is within the city of Euless, and just south of Euless is the Lone Star Park horse track in Grand Prairie. The southeast corner of the airport is within the city of Copell, and the city of Irving is also close by. Both Grapevine and Euless are suburbs of Fort Worth in Tarrant county. Copell is in Dallas and Denton counties, and is a bedroom community for the DFW airport metroplex. All surrounding cities have grown considerably since the airport opened.

The Six Flags Over Texas amusement park and Cowboys stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, are in the city of Arlington just a few miles north of the airport.
